Snail Mail Media is an independent production company specializing in commercially viable, character-driven projects. Led by Fonna Seidu, a Black Queer Non-Binary producer, SMM champions narrative projects with compelling storylines and complex characters with BIPOC & 2SLGBTQ+ people on-screen and behind the camera. SMM has produced over 30 short-form projects including CSA award winning project, BEING BLACK IN TORONTO, CBC’s web-series VIRGINS!, and multi-award winning short, PROMISE ME.

SMM’s slate is expanding into long-form content including YO, WE’RE DYING, Quarterfinalist in the 2021 ScreenCraft Comedy Competition and a Telefilm supported feature, LET’S DO THIS, a queer comedy heist involving a powerhouse team of producers (Clique Pictures, Good Question Media, Scythia Pictures, and Waterford Valley Pictures) which has been supported by the Harold Greenberg Fund and Ontario Creates, additionally THEY ECHO, in collaboration with Defar Media was awarded first time in 25 years of BlueCat Screenplay Competition’s history, a script has won both Best Feature Screenplay and the Fellini Award to the best international script, and recieved Telefilm Development Funding.

Snail Mail Media provides production services on impact-driven commercial work including The City of Toronto, TD Diversity, Audible, and Western University. Additionally, Snail Mail Media outsources services for production management including projects such as ERIN'S GUIDE TO KISSING GIRLS, movie of the week THE HOLIDAY SWAP, the 1/2 Hour CITY TV documentary series called BLACK COMMUNITY MIXTAPES and a doc feature with Elevation Pictures about LILITH FAIR.

 
 

 
  • FONNA SEIDU

    OWNER/MANAGER

    Fonna Tasha Seidu burst onto the film industry in 2018 with Alison Duke’s short film PROMISE ME, winner of Best Canadian Short at the 2020 AfroPrairie Film Festival. She’s since worked on 40+ projects including BEING BLACK IN TORONTO, Canadian Screen Award Winner for Best Direction for a Documentary Series and Aden Abebe’s VIRGINS!, a web series funded by IPF, Bell, and CBC that’s currently in post production. She also produced Lu Asfaha’s FRESH MEAT, which was developed with CBC and won the 2020 Reel Work Filmmaking Fund from BIPOC TV & Film as well as the 2021 Inside Out RE:Focus Post Production Film Fund. In collaboration with writer/director Lora Campbell, their feature film LET’S DO THIS is supported by the Harold Greenberg Fund and Ontario Creates. As a Black Queer producer, Fonna champions narrative projects with compelling storylines and niche audiences while always prioritizing BIPOC & 2SLGBTQ+ teams and projects.

    Fonna has additionally produced content for clients like Cossette, TD, Breakthroughs Film and Television, City of Toronto, Western University, and OYA Media Group.

  • CHRISTOPHER COLLINGTON

    RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT

    A graduate of the Humber College Film and Television Production program, Christopher is an emerging producer who brings a strong passion for film and television to every project he works on. Upon graduation, Christopher took the opportunity to join an Emerging Filmmakers Program with OYA Black Arts Coalition where he learned more about producing, production management, and the film industry while taking on roles such as Assistant Director and Production Coordinator on 2 short films. With experience producing short films and developing other pieces of work, he possesses a wealth of practical on and off-set experience with an eagerness to learn more from other filmmakers.
