Snail Mail Media is an independent production company led by Fonna Seidu, specializing in commercially viable, character-driven projects.

Fonna burst onto the film industry in 2018 with Alison Duke’s multi-award winning short film PROMISE ME, being distributed by McIntyre Media as educational content. She’s since worked on 60+ projects including BEING BLACK IN TORONTO, Canadian Screen Award Winner for Best Direction for a Documentary Series and VIRGINS!, on CBC Gem, a web series funded by IPF, Bell, and CBC. 

She also produced short films including Erica Orofino’s DIRTY BAD WRONG which won the Silver Audience Award for Best Canadian Short at Fantasia Film Festival 2024, FRESH MEAT, which was developed with CBC and won the 2020 Reel Work Filmmaking Fund from BIPOC TV & Film as well as the 2021 Inside Out RE:Focus Post Production Film Fund. TOE THE LINE (2021) was nominated for a Golden Sheaf for Scripted Short at Yorkton Film Festival 2022, and screened at festivals including Inside Out Toronto (2022), Vancouver Queer Film Festival (2022), and Vancouver Asian Film Festival (2021). 

Fonna is expanding into long-form content including THEY ECHO is a horror feature in collaboration with Defar Media, a script awarded both Best Feature Screenplay and the Fellini Award to the best international script, and recieved support from Telefilm Canada, Ontario Creates, and Women in the Director’s Chair. In addition to THEY ECHO, upcoming feature film in pre-production YO WE'RE DYING is supported by Telefilm, CMF, and Hollywood Suite. It is executive produced by Christina Piovesan at Elevation and Chemically Altered Production's Michael Lazarovitch. It was a Quarterfinalist in the 2021 ScreenCraft Comedy Competition and 2021 Nashville Film Festival Screenwriting Competition, and was a selected project for TIFF's Every Story 2024-2025.

Additionally, PACKING, a project supported by Telefilm Canada, IPF Development Fund and Ontario Creates’ IDM Development Funding.

As a Black Queer producer, Fonna champions narrative projects with compelling storylines and niche audiences while always prioritizing BIPOC & 2SLGBTQ+ teams and projects. 

Through her company, Snail Mail Media, she provides production services on commercial work including Capital One, Pepsi, Gatorade, The City of Toronto, TD Diversity, Audible, and Western University. Additionally, Snail Mail Media has led productions with numerous partners including CBC, Peacock Alley Entertainment, Elevation Pictures, and OYA Media Group on titles like DEGRASSI: WHATEVER IT TAKES (feat. Drake, Kevin Smith) and Elevation/Dan Levy's LILITH FAIR: BUILDING A MYSTERY (feat. Sarah McLachlan, Olivia Rodrigo) -- both of which are premiering at TIFF 2025. Other titles include Amazon's 50K FIRST DATES, CBC docs BIG FEMININE ENERGY and HARDER, FASTER, STRONGER, the 2021 Winner LA Femme Filmmaker Award for Best Feature ERIN'S GUIDE TO KISSING GIRLS (Hollywood Suite), THE HOLIDAY SWAP (Super Channel), season two of FOR THE CULTURE WITH AMANDA PARRIS (CBC Gem), and BLACK COMMUNITY MIXTAPES (CityTV)

Fonna is an alumna of Canadian Film Centre’s Producer’s Lab (2022), OYA’s Scale Up Immersive (2022), and NSI x EAVE’s Access BIPOC Producers inaugural cohort (2022).
